In 1999, to conquer my mid-life crisis at age 30, I enlisted the help of my good friend Ruth to run a marathon with me. We picked the St. George Marathon in Utah. Runner's World magazine had a great write up about it - a downhill run through a beautiful Utah canyon. The run was tough: I already felt tied by mile 5. By mile 10, I told Ruth to go on ahead of me. At mile 18, I gave up on my goal of finishing in under 5 hours. At mile 21, I got my second wind. At mile 25, I ran my fastest split of the race and finished in just under 5 hours. We celebrated our accomplishment with a dinner at my favorite fast food restaurant: Taco Time. :)
